Located 20 miles south of the Loop, Markham offers its 11,704 residents split-level or brick ranch homes at a median value of about $13,000. Interstate 57 traverses the community from the northeast to the southwest. A 400-home subdivision, Park Terrace, provides homes for Negroes, which make up 21.4% of the population.
