The woman grew up going to school with Negroes but had "not thought much about it," until she was confronted with the prospect of an integrated development in her community. Currently, the nearest Negro settlement is 8 miles away from Deerfield. She agrees with Harold Lewis, chairman of the anti-integration committee formed by some of the residents, that the builders are "trying to force integration down the throats of the people of Deerfield." She fears that an influx of Negroes will drive down property
values, making it difficult to sell their homes for a good price.
